Medical Care

No specific vaccinations are required for Mongolia, however a few could be recommended such as; hepatitis A, polio, tetanus and typhoid. Due to the elevation and location, there are no tropical diseases in Mongolia.

You need to bring your own private medicine including health products from home since it might not be available in Mongolia.

In the rural areas medical care is limited, however on all long trips outside Ulaanbaatar a First Aid Kit is carried by Nomadic Journeys. On our Horse trail journeys a Mongolian medical doctor follows on horseback to provide assistance in case of an emergency.

There is a western standard clinic in Ulaanbaatar called SOS Medica, staffed by South African nurses and medical doctors that do medivacs and attend emergencies, and any consultations. www.sosmedica.mn . SOS Medica is connected to the SOS Global Alarm Centre network via the Beijing Alarm Centre.

Emergencies: +976 11 345526 & 91913122
Office hours: +976 11 345527
E-mail: admin@sosmedica.mn

We recommend that you are insured by an insurer in your home country connected to the SOS International network for medical assistance, since then the chain of command to get you out of an emergency in a remote corner of Mongolia by helicopter, is much more fluid. Should anything happen.

Travel Insurance

You will need personal travel insurance . If you are planning to ride horses and if you are joining a Horse trail journey you might consider an additional (sports/high risk) insurance. Check with your insurance company what is included.

Our local leader will ask you to fill in a form with your insurance details and emergency contact numbers. Please bring such details with you. In case of any kind of evacuation we can process that much faster for you. If you are traveling to a remote area, make sure your insurance covers an evacuation by helicopter should the accident be there. If it is not covered this detail may be added or bought separately.
