Day 1 – Journey to Ikh Nart

Pickup from your hotel in Ulaanbaatar and travel southeast by private vehicle (approx. 4.5 hours). The landscape gradually shifts from open grasslands to Gobi steppe. Upon arrival, check into your ger and enjoy free time to explore the surroundings.

Days 2–3 – Exploring the Reserve

Spend two full days exploring the Ikh Nart area by foot, horse, camel, or mountain bike. Wildlife sightings may include Argali Sheep, Siberian Ibex, Cinereous Vultures, and other bird species. Ongoing scientific studies by Mongolian and international researchers focus on these animals, as well as kestrels, small carnivores, and native plants. Your guide can also show you prehistoric petroglyphs, burial sites, and ruins of ancient temples. You may also meet local herding families, who migrate in and out of the area with their livestock depending on seasonal pastures.

Day 4 – Return to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast, depart camp and visit the Choiriin Bogd Mountains, where remote rock-face Buddha carvings can be seen. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route and return to Ulaanbaatar via a mostly paved road.

Vehicles are parked a short walk away, maintaining the peaceful natural setting. Fully collapsible and it is designed to leave minimal environmental impact. The camp uses EcoLoo composting toilets, using a special blend of natural bacteria to break down waste, and shower gers where water is heated on wood-burning stoves. Electricity for the kitchen and refrigerator is generated by solar panels. All waste is separated and managed responsibly. The camp’s footprint is no greater than that of a traditional herding family—making it a true model of low-impact travel.

Day 1: To Jalman Meadows

We drive northeast through steppe valleys dotted with gers and livestock, crossing the Zamtiin Pass into the Upper Tuul River Valley, a traditional winter pasture where few families stay in summer—allowing edelweiss and other wildflowers to flourish. On arrival, yak carts meet us to carry luggage, and we settle into comfortable gers.

Days 2–3: Khan Khentii

Explore at your own pace—on foot, on horseback, or by river using catarafts or inflatable kayaks. The area features forests, steppe valleys, and meandering rivers, with vast solitude and scenic beauty. The Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area, established in 1993, preserves much of Mongolia’s wilderness. The southern region is lightly inhabited by herders, while the north remains untouched. Enjoy a refreshing swim, ride mountain bikes, relax in a ger sauna, or unwind in the library ger.

Day 4: Return to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast, we return to Ulaanbaatar. See the capital city on your own. Distances in the city are short, and most points of interest are walkable

Vehicles are parked a short walk away, maintaining the peaceful natural setting. Fully collapsible and it is designed to leave minimal environmental impact. All gers include private ensuite EcoLoo composting toilets that use natural bacteria to safely and environmentally break down waste. Separate shower gers provide reliable hot water heated by traditional wood-burning stoves. Electricity for the kitchen and refrigerator is generated by solar panels. All waste is separated and managed responsibly. The camp’s footprint is no greater than that of a traditional herding family—making it a true model of low-impact travel.

Day 1 – To Arburd Sands
We pick you up from your hotel in Ulaanbaatar and drive south across the vast steppe (approx. 2–3 hours). Upon arrival at Arburd Sands Ger Camp, you’ll settle in and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we visit nearby nomadic families to experience daily life in the Gobi steppe.

Day 2 – Zorgol Hairkhan Mountains
We travel 35 km across the steppe to reach Zorgol Hairkhan, an awe-inspiring sacred mountain mentioned in Mongolia’s oldest literary work. Along the way, we may discover petroglyphs of exceptional quality. With luck, we may spot Argali Sheep or Siberian Ibex along the rocky ridges. The area is also home to sacred springs and caves, where locals continue to make offerings.

Day 3 – Exploring Arburd Sands
We spend the day exploring Arburd Sands on foot or by camel or horse. The dunes extend for over 20 km and offer stunning desert scenery. Interestingly, wolves are known to shelter in the dunes and are sometimes seen at a distance. Encounters with herdsmen are common, and you’ll likely be welcomed into a ger to learn about traditional nomadic life.

Day 4 – Return to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast, we drive back to Ulaanbaatar. You’ll return to your hotel in the early afternoon with time to explore the city on foot—most landmarks and attractions are within walking distance.
