River Adventures

When planning to travel to Mongolia, many travelers imagine Mongolia, they visualize the Gobi desert or the vast grassland steppe. Very few are familiar with northern Mongolia and its rivers. Nomadic Journeys operates Mongolian river adventure tours in a few of Mongolia’s rivers mostly in the northern region. Northern Mongolia is a place of snow-capped mountains, vast forests, and meadows filled with wildflowers. There are thousands of miles of rivers and lakes, makes it perfect for rafting and kayaking river adventure tours as well as fly fishing journeys. The Mongolian river is remote, making vehicle access nearly impossible along much of the stretch. Every year, we establish a string of camps along the river allowing guests to float between the most productive sectors. Although a couple of spots we access may require tented camps, nearly all of the river camps are outfitted with yurt (gers). Much like an African tented safari, the camps are rustic but very comfortable. Each campsite along the river is uniquely peaceful, designed to reflect Mongolian traditions and integrate with the country’s natural surroundings.
