When planning a trip to Mongolia, most travelers picture the sweeping Gobi Desert or the endless grassland steppe. Few are aware of the dramatic beauty of northern Mongolia — a land of snow-capped mountains, vast forests, and wildflower-filled meadows. This region is home to thousands of miles of rivers and lakes, making it an ideal setting for rafting, kayaking, and fly fishing adventures.
Nomadic Journeys offers expertly guided river adventure tours on select rivers in northern Mongolia. These remote waterways flow through pristine landscapes, often inaccessible by vehicle. To explore them comfortably, we establish a seasonal string of luxury ger (yurt) camps along the most scenic and productive river stretches.
While a few sections require tented overnight stays, nearly all our river camps are outfitted with traditional gers. Much like an African tented safari, the experience is rustic yet remarkably comfortable. Each camp is thoughtfully placed and designed to reflect Mongolian nomadic traditions while immersing guests in the peaceful beauty of the surrounding wilderness.
