Lake Khuvsgul

the twin lake of Baikal in Mongolia

Introduction

Lake Khuvsgul is one of Asia’s most pristine large lakes, located at 1,645 meters above sea level in northern Mongolia. Often called the “twin of Lake Baikal,” it shares the same deep blue color and is part of the Baikal Rift system. The lake stretches 125 km from north to south and is up to 262 meters deep. Surrounded by the Horidal Saridag Mountains and Siberian taiga forest, it is home to endemic grayling, lenok trout, and diverse birdlife. Its waters are crystal-clear, with visibility of up to 25 meters  and it remains almost untouched by boat traffic.

What our guests say

We appreciate your feedback about our tours and services.

  • Living the mongolian way

Great place to stay and experience mongolian way of living, no tv, wifi, phone. Just nature and great company of the staff and livestocks of mongolia. The toilet is a hole in the ground covered by a shed. It is clean, but can be smelly to those used to city life. Not hot water supply, inform the staff that you like to hot water half an hour earlier so that they can boil it over camel dung 🙂
